Hunting down a good scanner

Been lacking a good scanner for a while which has been an excuse for a long pause among other personal drastic changes. Don't care much to whine, since it is all behind me and I am pretty comfortable now. What I wold like if anypne reads this is a reccomendation for a good scanner.

Didn't know him personally, I remember some sort of backlash with people turning on him and then he dissappeared, my memory is very fuzzy.
